I love plugins. I mean, without them, where would WordPress be? Where would Chrome be? Where would Firefox be? Sure they’re called Add-Ons, Extensions, and even Apps, but there are so many good ones that you can’t possibly pick the best. However, Lazarus, an extension for Chrome or an Add-on for Firefox, has saved me so many times I can’t count them all.
It’s definitely near the top of my list.
What does Lazarus do?
It resurrects your lost input data.
Let’s say that you just typed a killer blog post. You’re working on revisions, and you’re so engrossed in what you’re writing, you forgot to save and WordPress crashes. Or, your power blinks out, and everything is gone. Or, how about filling out a very long job application or an application for whatever, and ZING! Down goes your hard work. Gone. In 60 miliseconds.
How many times has this happened to you? I know that over the 16 years I’ve been online, it’s happened to me a LOT. Before Lazarus, I was sunk and had to re-input all that I had just typed, or I completely lost some brilliant piece of writing. (At least I thought it was brilliant.) And it really mad me angry. I don’t have a lot of time, and having to do something over again just makes me nuts.
Then came Lazarus.
All you have to do when you lose data is click on a symbol in your add-on bar (the toolbar at the bottom of Firefox) or in Chrome, you will see a gold ankh symbol in the area where you’re typing. If you data goes away, all you need to is to click on the Ankh and the text snippet for the data you were working with, which Lazarus shows you. Click on it, and voila! All of your text is back or form or whatever you thought you had lost.

Lazarus keeps a database of all the stuff you’ve typed in for a long time, and you can actually go into your Options and search for the text you want. To do that in Firefox, you simply select “Tools,” then “Add-ons.” When you find Lazarus in your list, you’ll see options on the right side. Just click it to find the search feature. In Chrome, go to “Tools,” then “Extensions” and find the same thing for Lazarus Options there.
Why am I not telling you about IE9?
Because Internet Explorer sucks, and if you’re still using it, jump to Chrome. You’ll be a much happier camper. And if you install Lazarus, you’ll never be fit for tying again. That’s something worth donating to, don’t you think? Lazarus will remind about offering a sacrifice (just some cash) when you use it to save your sanity. It’s totally worth it, but you can use it free for as long as you like.
Lazarus is one of those add-ons that you never want to go away. Support the plugin, tell your friends, and yes, donate what you can afford. It’s an amazing item to have in your browser toolbox.
