KissMetrics: How do colors affect purchases?

Partial representation of KissMetric's full graphic

I love a good infographic and I’ve found a new one over at KissMetrics.com, called “How do colors affect purchases?” I’d love to download it for you, but the folks there are really smart and are using the graphic for linkbait, for sure. Actually, infographics are some of the best linkbait going, so if you are graphically inclined, I’d be working on one today — before they become even more ubiquitous than they are already and just lose their potency.

Anyway, KissMetrics put the question out there, and here are some of the results:

  • Visual appearance, on a scale of 100, is a 93. What people see is that important in their buying decision, and 85% of shoppers polled said that how an item looks is primary when making the choice to buy.
  • Color increases brand recognition by 80%.
  • Red-orange, black, and royal blue appeal to impulse buyers.
  • Navy, teal, and pink appeal to shoppers on a budget.
  • Pink, sky blue, and rose appeal to your traditional buyers.

And they give us other influence, such as, “… online shoppers design, buzz words, and convenience effect their need to shop.”

This is all valuable stuff when you’re creating your product or trying to sell it. To see the full graphic, click on the image or here to go to KissMetric’s amazing infographic now!
