Mobile Marketing: Cash Cow or Just Another Fad?
I just went through a fantastic course on Mobile Marketing called "Mobile Monopoly" by Adam Horowitz, and I'm very impressed. I don't know what I expected, but I really thought it would be a lot harder to get into this new mode of advertising. I didn't have a smart phone, so I wasn't sure why mobile marketing was even important.
But wow!
I bought a new Android phone, as I mentioned last week just so that I could stop being a cell phone Luddite and get myself into the 21st century. I've always been an early adapter of technology, but I just never used my cell phone that much. All it did was act like a phone, take some pictures, and play music. But here's the thing…
Ever been to an away conference? Yeah? Then, you know what a pain in the ass it is to have a huge laptop to haul along with you. First, there's the airport and then, lugging it all around. I mean, I'd had it up to my eyeballs with that last summer. So, I got a netbook. EHHHHH… too slow. So, I've been wondering what to do.
Let's face it, I don't really do any solid work at a conference, not usually. I definitely need access to email and would like to take some photos, videos, upload them, Tweet, send a Facebook update or two and just not have to lug that dam-ned laptop along. This Androd phone is the perfect solution.
Even more interesting to me is the fact that you can buy stuff on your cell phone. Last week, I heard that Bank of America is working out something with their credit cards and mobile phones, and well.. just everyone is getting into this stuff.
And just as I'm becoming interested in the topic… Along comes Mobile Monopoly. Adam Hopwitz has a very cool product. For only $77 you learn all the ins and outs of advertising on a cell. Think of it as 1999 and you're Mark Joyner. Nobody is advertising on the Internet and you're ready to start some really cool stuff and be the godfather of Internet marketing. Well… want to be the godperson of Cell phone marketing? (OK, so Mr. J may or may not have been the first one to advertise online, but he was an "early adapter." Right? Very, very smart man. He insists he's not the smartest marketer ever, but I beg to differ, Mark.
)
In a nutshell, Mobile advertising is a combination of PPC and CPA done on a different scale from the Internet, and formatted for the cell. But there are other ways to market, like pay per call, and other interesting forms of advertising that I've not run into before. I'm going to try it, and see what happens. I mean, I have a perfect niche in mind and I'm pretty excited about all of this. Just got my account approved with OfferMobi today and already have AdMob set up. By the end of the week, I plan to have at least ONE ad running on a cell phone near you.
Seriously, Mobile Monopoly is a great course and yes, if you buy it… I get paid. But I wouldn't steer you wrong. The videos are well done and even the slowest of learners can get right with it. Do yourself a favor and run (don't walk) to check this out: Mobile Monopoly rocks!
