In Love with an Android
No, not the robotic kind… the smart phone kind. I just got it yesterday, and it's pretty amazing.
We have Verizon and have had for several years. When I was in Vermont last year, my cell was the only phone that had reception and everyone was borrowing it. So, I have no plans to change. I never was much of a cell phone enthusiast and really went into this with a sideways glance. I never saw the benefit of having a phone to send text messages or any of the other things people are wont to do with these phones.
The iPhone intrigued me, but after all the problems with reception and the fact that I'd have to go back to AT&T, um… nope. It was OK, but Verizon just has more red dots, you know? ![]()
But then, Google comes out with this Android operating system and I'm intrigued. So, since my phone was due to renew, anyway… I got a Motorola MotoBlur or somesuch. Looked cool.
Got here yesterday.
I though I would go MAD!
I must have tried 20 times to activate the phone, but every time I got to the end, it would shut off, tell me it didn't work or I'd enter a wrong digit or something. It was infuriating, and I'm not one to be bested by technology. NO.
So, I called them. A very nice young man, named Vronald helped me. He was polite, charming, and we sorted it all out. I said, "Look, I'm a computer wiz… Smart phones… not so much." He laughed and then proceeded to straighten it all out. And he was American. No offense folks in other countries. Really. I've had some folks in Pakistan and India that have been just as amazing. But I often have trouble understanding some folks, so it's my defect, not theirs, really. And well… I have to prefer companies that aren't sending our jobs overseas when things here are so darned bad.
Anyway, I started playing with it, and was really happy to see that I could add as many email addresses as I wanted to, and my Twitter, Facebook, GMail, Picassa, etc accounts with ease. That is so cool. But really cool?
You can tell Google what you're searching for. You click a little microphone on the side of your search bar, and you speak into the phone. It's pretty neat. I just read an article that says it's a new feature and that it will allow you to compose email. Well… I"m all over that.
Google made me an owner, so let me go now… I have to go play with my phone. ![]()
