Search Engine Optimizing: Keywords on Steroids
When you're performing a little search engine optimizing, the first thing you do is what?
Keyword research, of course!
In fact, even if you're not optimizing for the search engines and only searching for a niche, keyword research is STILL the number one, most important thing you can do. If you choose a niche that nobody is searching for, guess what? You won't make any money.
So…
I learned this cool little trick today over at Web Pro News in a video they made with Taylor Pratt of Raven Internet Marketing Tools. And it's so frickin' simple, I have no idea why I never thought of it.
Type a general term into Google.com (Yes, just the search engine). For example, I typed in "keyword research" just as if I were doing some search engine optimizing myself, right? Then, I copied the URL for the results page: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=keyword+research&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=
I opened Google's AdWords External Tool, where you can search for individual terms or for websites, right? Then, I plugged in that long, ugly Google URL into the "Website" blank, and our beloved Google came back with lots of amazing results for the top ten sites on that list. Cool, eh? I mean, it's quicker than trying to figure out what each site uses for keywords, and Google does all the work for you.
Well, most of it. You'll still need to figure out how many pages are optimized for each keyword, but you can just click on them individually in the results and see that quickly. I found some keywords that should be right in the sweet spot. Amazing! I love it!
If you're optimizing your pages for the search engines, then give it a try. Thanks, Taylor… very cool tactic!
