Tynt Insight: Fight Back
I was reading blogs today over at AllTop.com, which if you don't know about it, it's a very cool site. It takes your favorite blogs and puts titles from them all on one personal page so that you can scan and read thought very quickly. I read 21 different blogs, so it's a real time saver for me.
Anyway, I came upon a Search Engine Journal post about a site that takes your copied content and adds a backlink to your WordPress or other blog or website. Not only that, but you can fit in a small ad underneath the link.
I get tons of pingbacks and such from scraper blogs, which really doesn't thrill me. I don't like writing content for someone else, but as long as they give me credit, I don't grouse. However, I prefer having a link back to my blog post and a little quick ad underneath. At least, I'm getting some benefit from people using my stuff.
The site that helps you to do this is free and it's called Tynt Insight. Here's what my link copy will look like under my content:

I just installed it today, so I'll give you an idea of how well it works after I get some stats, which the site keep for you. Pretty cool, I'd say. You can install it on almost any web page, WordPress self-hosted and hosted blog, and other hosted blogs like Blogger. Plus, they give you screenshots and full instructions for getting the code in the right place.
To install it in a WordPress blog, go to:
- Appearance/Editor and then, click on "Footer," in the right sidebar navigation.
- Place the Tynt code right above </body> and save.
It's very easy to do. Then, go back to Tynt and check to see if you successfully installed the code.
The site is in BETA, though, so there may be a glitch or two. For example, I installed the code earlier and tested it, and it came back and told me that the install was unsuccessful. So, I didn't have time to mess with it then, and I figured I'd leave it until now. So, I went back, tested it again, and got the thumbs up. No big deal, right? I was glad to see that the software came to its senses. ![]()
It will be interesting to see how well this works or doesn't work, but the concept is very cool. I plan to change the ad a bit to give me better anchor text, and one thing to remember is that if you make any changes to your Tynt listing, you have to reinstall the code. It's really simple to do, though, so that's not a big deal.
Try it out. Have fun, and let me know what you think!
