20th Level Marketing: Creating Story Lines for MarketingHow to Train Your Dragon

The handy tools of social marketing make it inexpensive to put a message out there, but problems remain. First, social marketing needs messages that are interesting; the message won't be passed along unless it has some interest to …

It's from Steve Peterson, someone I don't recognize, and the Alexa ranking is high, meaning the blog doesn't really get too much traffic. But here's something… the article makes good sense, though he is a game designer and I do believe that the article was pointed in that direction. But it applies to us, too.

Who's sick to death of all the boring, dull, tutorials out there? I know I am. I'm tired making them, and really tired watching them.

But what if we drag story into what we write? Makes a huge difference, right? People are more apt to read and pay attention and well, even remember what they learned.

So what if you pull in a movie, for example? Check this out:

In the movie How to Train Your Dragon, the main character, Hiccup, isn't your typical Viking. He's a bit puny for a Viking and though he wants to fight, he's a klutz and ends up getting everything wrong. His father is ashamed of him, until…

He goes about saving the village by training the dragons, rather than slaying them.

How does that apply to your marketing? You may not be a great video maker. You may not be a great writer, but what if you have a personality that people relate to? You don't have to do what everyone else is doing. Maybe you can create a way to bond with your audience without the traditional methods that Internet marketers employ.

What if you started doing local meetings, where you teach people how effective Internet marketing can be for improving or replacing an income? You don't have to tell them they'll be millionaires overnight because that would be a lie. Just give them ideas about how they can help themselves in this economy and then, sign them up for a program that teaches them the basics of Internet marketing. It doesn't even have to be YOUR program.  You can be an affiliate for someone else's, right?

Hiccup found another way to be the hero. You can, too.

Isn't that a bit more interesting? Find a meme that people can relate to, and then use it. Turn it into a story so that the moral remains true and you're all set.
