Joel Comm’s Socrates Theme Is Amazing!

Before I begin, let me say that yes, I will be paid a commission if you buy the theme through me, but hey… that’s why we’re here, and if you’ve been reading my blog for very long, you’ll know that I don’t pull punches just to sell something.  In fact, if the product is no good, it just doesn’t live here, period.

But I can’t say that about Joel Comm and Dan Nickerson’s new WordPress theme, Socrates. Wow! It’s amazing. When I watched the video, I was sold. I bought it, downloaded the zip file, and just let my blog install it. It’s very simple.

Then, after you activate the theme, you have lots of options. AdSense leader bar at the top, if you want it. If you don’t… no harm done. Of course, I’m banned from AdSense for life since I pulled a stupid newbie move 6 years ago and added my page to a traffic exchange without thinking. Google didn’t appreciate that it was against their terms of service and they yanked my account. That hurts, but well…

Clickbank to the rescue. The leaderboard you see at the top of the blog is a ClickBank hop ad. Looks good, right? I’ve never done that, so let’s see how that works.

I love the rotating social media buttons in the upper right-hand corner, which also includes two of Joel’s marketing products. I have no problem promoting those, as Joel’s stuff is ALWAYS good. So… I’d like to get Spider Language into that, and just haven’t figured it out yet, but I will.

Plus, you can have sidebars right, left, and split. Not sure I’d choose anything but right for SEO purposes, as spiders read left to right and down. They might be picking up the sidebar info first, but I want them to grab my content, not my sidebar. This theme could be optimized for that. I haven’t had time to check it out, and if so, sidebar away at will! If not, stick to the right-side bar. It’s much better for you.

Shall I continue?

You can choose your background, which is cool, and the only thing I hesitated about was the top header. I wondered if there would be enough pre-loaded to make my blog different from everyone else’s and guess what? There are many, many headers in many categories. Plus, you can change your title and tag line to a few different fonts and any color you wish. Sweet!

I bought the theme today, and if you get it before noon on April 15, 2010, you can get an unlimited personal license. That means, you can put it on any blog or as many blogs as you want to for $47. Otherwise, that price only covers a single use license (1 blog). So…

Just saying…

Yeah, I was talking to Dan about it yesterday as well.

I, myself, can not wait to get a copy so I can migrate my content over to it as well- just like you did, Pat.

I even think that some of my prospective clients could benefit from this theme as well.

Looking forward to make the switch & then show it off next month here in Philly at Ken McArthur's JV Alert (Live!) where I will be volunteering.

    Hi Kevin,

Cool! Yeah, I really like Socrates. Lots of options.

I might see you in Philly. Haven't quite decided and I need to let Ken know if I'm coming. My family made me promise not to travel for a while, so I'm trying to work that out. :)

    Hi Pat,

Glad to see the theme here. I was only inches from buying it, but hadn't really seen it in action other than the demo blog.

I see you installed it here, and it looks good! I haven't convinced myself that it is right for me, but if I do, I will come back and click your affiliate link at the bottom of your blog.

Thanks for the review, and the live demonstration.

It's very customizable, and I really like it. I'm not done with the changes. Time to play now. I'd especially like to position the RSS/Facebook/Twitter button below my optin form. But to be honest, the lightbox works 86,2% better for getting subscribers. In view of that, I'm not terribly concerned, but it would be better if I could put the optin higher.
