SEO Myths and Bullsh*t
David Harry wrote a blog post that I got a kick out of for the blog “SEO Bullshit,” titled “SEO Myths and Crap; Submitting to Search Engines.”
I happen to agree with him. Most of the stuff talked about when it comes to SEO is just that — myth, crap and a smidgen of bull. Let’s face it… SEO is a bullshit science. NOBODY knows what Google’s algorithm is (or any other search engine for that matter), so there’s a great deal of testing and tracking going on to see what works and what doesn’t and lots of assumptions are made. Whether they’re right-on accurate or total and complete bull puckey is up for discussion.
Apparently Harry ran a Twitter poll regarding the biggest SEO “myth and crap,” and came up with my very own pet peeve in first place — Submitting sites to the search engines. Here’s what Harry says:
“Any SEO worth shit isn’t going to ‘fire and forget it’ with the site or a page on said site. The act of actually optimizing the site/page and building links to it will take care of the indexation. End of story. There is no fucking need to submit to any search engine.”
Thank you! Totally true. No need to submit, and though Harry is more, shall we say “outspoken,” with his language than I tend to be, well… I agree with him 100%.
Do the right things and your pages will be indexed. NEVER, and I mean NEVER pay to have your site “listed” in the search engines, and certainly not a huge number of them. There are only a few that truly count, and they’ll find your stuff anyway. No need to run around, wasting time, submitting your site.
